How do I free up a sticking ring? Can't get it to budge.

Top ring (you can see where the ring split is just below the "A" stamped on the top of piston.

Are these new rings or can you sacrifice them?

Soak the heck out of it and tap it lightly with a wooden dowell or pc of broom stick to get it freed up a bit . You'll need to remove the ring and clean out the groove , most likely all carboned up

Ok , if you need something a little firmer (get yer mind outta the gutter ) try a screwdriver handle and also you may try a sm jewlers screwdriver to wedge between the gap and gently wiggle . Eventually it should work free .

I used a eyeglasses screw driver to get mine out. Really in there tight.

They can be a real bugger sometimes . I had one that i finally got out (in three pcs). Just make sure you get all that carbon outta there .
